Welcome to the Middle Eastern Studies Guide. This guide was designed by librarians at UW Libraries and archivists at the UW American Heritage Center to provide information and resources related to Middle Eastern Studies. You will find tabs with information on UW Libraries databases, collections at the AHC, and outside resources. 

We understand that the hardest part of doing research can be identifying keywords. Here are some suggested keywords from your friendly UW library faculty: 

Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Countries and Regions:

• Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Yemen
• Greater Middle East, MENAT (Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey)

Languages:

• Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Turkish, Coptic (dialect)

Religions:

• Islam (Sunni/Sunnism, Shia/Shi'ism), Sufism, Judaism, Christianity, Yazidism, Druze faith, Baháʼí Faith, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism
