Guide for use in courses taught for Military Veterans by TK Stoudt.

Finding Information for Courses & Assignments

The image to the right is the main webpage of the UW Libraries. Note the gold "QuickSearch" bar, as well as the tabs on the right. This area is your gateway for locating information.

This is the link to the Tutorials Library Guide. Click on the links to learn about available resources, how to find articles, find books, search databases, and get course specific tutorials (e.g., nursing and business).

This link is to a video tour and orientation of Coe Library. It is a bit dated but gives a good visual overview.

This is a link to the Citation and Style Guide. You will need this information to properly attribute the sources you locate and used in your research assignment in this class and others.

Library Help

Help is available in many ways at the UW Libraries:

  • Each library has a Help Desk where you can talk to a living, breathing person.
  • Send an email to us. Click the "HELP" menu link at the top of the webpage, then select the 'Request Research Help" button. Complete the form and submit it. Make sure you use your UW email address to get priority support. The question queue is monitored weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on business days. This link is to the question form. (Scroll down the page.)
  • Use the "Chat Help" icon to contact a librarian to ask questions. This button is located to the top right of the webpage. Chat help is available seven days a week (hours vary). This link will open the chat webpage.
  • Make an appointment to meet with a librarian. Click this page to open the listing. Select the librarian for your area or click the yellow "See All Librarian Appointments" to meet with the first available librarian.
  • Call 766-3190 to speak to the main Coe Library Help Desk.
  • Send a text message to Coe Library by using the CALL/TXT button located next to the email button. This service is monitored weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on business days. Please use this service for simple questions such as hours the library is open and not for complex research questions. Use the EMAIL option for those questions.
  • Browse the FAQs. Click on the "HELP" menu link, and then on the "FAQ" button. This link is to the FAQ page.

Finding Government Information

UW is an official repository of government documents. The Government Information library guide provides more information on how to access that information. Many government documents are digitized and are accessible directly on-line or through the QuickSearch.

The UW Library Annex is the primary location for print and media Government Documents. This library is located on the west end of campus underneath the Biological and Physical Sciences buildings. However, this library is not open for use. Request the needed materials by using the "Hold for Me" located in the "Options" section of the library catalog entry.

Government documents that are on microfiche or microfilm are stored on Level 1 of Coe Library.
