UWYO 1101/1600/3600: Military Veterans: Databases & Websites with Career Information

Guide for use in courses taught for Military Veterans by TK Stoudt.

Databases with Career Information

UW subscribes to or has access to over 1100 different databases. These databases provide everything from the latest journal articles to digital images of historic documents, as well as access to ebooks, datasets, and other scholarly information.

The following databases are useful for locating various information about business and careers.

Occupational Outlook Handbook

The Occupational Outlook Handbook is the first place to get a summary on some of the facts about different careers in the United States. More recent information about career fields is available in the Occupational Outlook Quarterly.

For hundreds of different types of jobs—such as teacher, lawyer, and nurse—the Occupational Outlook Handbook and the Career Outlook tells you:

  • the training and education needed
  • earnings
  • expected job prospects
  • what workers do on the job
  • working conditions

In addition to career and employment information, the Bureau of Labor Statistics website is a great resource for economic information.

You can use the handbook online by putting your search terms in the search box, or you can use the A-Z Index and see all the job titles available.

Both are published by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics
