UWYO 1101/1600/3600: Military Veterans: UWYO 3600 : Campus-to-Career

Guide for use in courses taught for Military Veterans by TK Stoudt.

Overview of UWYO 3600 "College-to-Career"

The third and final veteran-focused course, UWYO 3600 "College-to-Career," is a capstone course focusing on completing a transition from solely identifying as a warrior/veteran to a capable professional in a specific career field who also happens to be a veteran. History is full of people who were warrior-scholars, melding the best of military experience with critical thinking skills learned as a scholar.

UWYO 3600 fulfills the COM 3 requirement for the University Studies Program (USP). More information on the USP is available at this link.

This course will focus on the areas of self-authorship, mutual critique, problem identification, independent knowing, and completion of a capstone project. Writing focus will shift from writing for the academic world to writing for the professional world; think of this content as a technical communication course that prepares students to function in their career field. Critical thinking skills will be further explored using the Pearlman and Carillo text used in the first two veterans courses. Students will work on "Career Launch" and "Career Starter Documents," as well as develop professional "soft-skills" that are so important to success in any career field.

The course will culminate in a "Capstone Business Proposal and Presentation" to the class. This assignment will require library research, as well as external research into the selected profession / business. Interviews of current professionals or workers in a field and visits to business centers or work facilities are encouraged to develop a complete overview of the chosen field.
