Share References from EndNote Desktop

References in an EndNote Desktop library can be shared in several different ways depending upon need:

Sync an EndNote Desktop library with a corresponding EndNote Basic (web version) account. [From EndNote Basic, custom groups or the entire library can be shared with other EndNote Basic users.]
Share your entire EndNote Desktop X8 library with up to 100 other EndNote Desktop users (of version X7.2 or later), enabling simultaneous read and write capabilities.
Save groups or entire EndNote Desktop libraries as Compressed Library Files (.enlx) to provide backup or to share with another EndNote Desktop user.

Sync with EndNote Basic

Set up Sync in EndNote Desktop
The Sync function between EndNote Desktop and EndNote Basic must be activated and initiated from EndNote Desktop.

Use Sync to be able to access your reference library and attachments from devices other than the desktop on which EndNote Desktop X8 has been installed.

Syncing EndNote applications also allows for sharing of the reference library or custom groups from EndNote Basic.

Note: EndNote Basic will not copy Smart Groups, Combination Groups, or Group Sets, but will place Custom Groups into an Unfiled Group Set.

Invite EndNote Desktop Users to Share a Library
After syncing an EndNote Desktop X8 library with EndNote Basic, the library and its contents can be shared (with read and write access) with up to 100 other EndNote Desktop users (of version X7.2 or later).

Create a Compressed Library File

Save a Compressed Library File
An EndNote Desktop library can be saved as a Compressed Library File (.enlx) for backup or to send a static copy to another user of EndNote Desktop.
