ORCID: Registering for your ORCID

This resource provides information about creating and managing an ORCID profile in order to better manage your scholarship and to increase the visibility of your work.

Register in 1 Minute

Registering for your ORCiD takes less time than waiting in line for a coffee.

1. Go to https://orcid.org/register

2. Use your institutional email address, create a password, and register your account (set a personal email as backup!)

3. Verify your email

4. And you're done!

Congratulations! You are now officially a member of ORCiD. Make sure you fill out your profile later as thoroughly as possible - it's not as time consuming as it sounds, and is important to get credit for your work and authorship.

Two Ways to Enter Works

To add your scholarship to your profile, you can either enter the information manually or, you can use the "Search and Link Wizard" to find you publications and import them. Importing your work is the preferred method as it verifies that the work comes from a reputable source.

You can also grant permission to trusted organizations which allows for organizations publishers, research databases, and funding agencies to auto-populate your ORCID profile as your work is published. You have complete control over these permissions and you may change permissions at any time. Filling out your Profile

Now that you have a profile, you need to connect works that you were involved with in order to populate your record.

There are a number of ways to add works to your ORCID record yourself:

  1. Add works by direct import from other systems to import links to your publications and other works to your ORCID record from other databases. This is the recommended process because it reduces or eliminates errors, and enables a reliable connection between your ORCID iD and your works

  2. Add works using an identifier

  3. Importing works from a BibTeX file

  4. Add works manually
