Library Instruction: InfoLit Tutorials

The InfoLit modules are a set of six interactive tutorials and a pre and post-test on the library research process which you can add to your WyoCourses class shell. The resource aims to:

• Help students learn how to find relevant and reliable library and other research materials
• Formulate appropriate, workable research questions
• Synthesize what they learn into a final product such as a research paper, including citations that are apt for their field

We recommend these tutorials primarily for FYS classes.

The modules are:

3. Sources of Information
4. Searching for Information
5. Evaluating Information
6. Presenting Research and Data
7. Citations & Academic Integrity

Feel free to use these modules however they best meet the needs of your class: you can use just one, pick a few, or use the whole set. We have created subject-specific packages that you can meet with your subject librarian to incorporate into your class.

The InfoLit: Health Science modules are in addition to our generalized InfoLit modules but with specific content to support the College of Health Sciences here at UW. InfoLit Health Science aims to:

• Help students learn how to find relevant and reliable health science materials in the library and online
• Formulate appropriate, workable research questions using PICO and other methods
• Synthesize what they learn into a final product such as a research paper, including citations that are apt for their field. 

There are three modules within InfoLit: Health Science

  • Identifying Types of Evidence

Feel free to use these modules however you see fit. You can combine these modules with the generalized InfoLit modules to provide students with detailed information literacy knowledge. We have also created subject-specific packages that can help you decide which modules to select.

We replaced TIP with the new InfoLit Modules, so TIP is no longer available to import into WyoCourses. Instructors who have already imported TIP can continue to use it, but we will no longer support it.

We encourage instructors to give the new tutorials a try and to get in touch with the Research & Instruction department with questions or for help importing or them or for ideas on incorporating information literacy into courses.
