HIST 3020: Historical Methods: American Heritage Center

About the American Heritage Center

The University of Wyoming's AHC is one of the nation’s leading archives and research institutions, dedicated to preserving and providing access to a vast array of historical materials. It is located on the eastern side of the UW campus in the Centennial Complex, preserves a clearly defined set of primary sources and rare books - reflecting the written, visual, and audio history of Wyoming, the Rocky Mountain region, and select aspects of the American past. Our diverse collections support casual inquiry and international scholarship; most importantly, we play an active and creative role in the teaching and research missions of the University of Wyoming.

Our holdings focus on a wide variety of subjects, with particular strengths in:

  • Western History: Including the settlement and development of the American West.
  • Politics and Public Affairs: Featuring the papers of notable political figures.
  • Literature and Journalism: Highlighting authors, journalists, and publishers.
  • Popular Entertainment: Showcasing materials related to film, radio, television, and the performing arts.

These collections serve as invaluable primary sources for anyone studying Wyoming’s history, the broader history of the American West, and various other thematic areas.
