US3473526 -- "Cardiac Pulse-Rate Monitor;" Inventors Albert Dale Herman and Herbert Zeppo Marx; patent issued October 21, 1969;  Zeppo was the youngest of the famous actor Marx brothers, who left acting to become an engineer.
