Annotated Bibliography Style FAQ

FAQ: Zotero Annotated Bibliography Style

Q: Why is the annotated bibliography style not working properly in Zotero?

A: One common reason the annotated bibliography style may not appear to work is that the "Extra" field is already filled with metadata (e.g., DOI, Place of Publication, Publisher). This can happen when Zotero imports references from databases but doesn’t perfectly map the metadata to the correct fields. When this occurs, Zotero places the information in the "Extra" field to avoid losing data, but it may interfere with styles (like annotated bibliography) that use the "Extra" field for other purposes.

Q: How can the issue with the "Extra" field be resolved?

A: Users should review the "Extra" field and move any metadata (such as DOI, Place of Publication, Publisher) into the appropriate fields within Zotero. This will free up the "Extra" field for use by citation styles, such as the annotated bibliography style.

Q: Why doesn't the window asking to continue installing the style pop up after clicking download?

A: On both Windows and Mac, after downloading the style, the prompt to continue installation may not appear automatically. Users need to click into the Zotero app to see the pop-up window and complete the installation. This small step may be overlooked, causing confusion.
