How to Find Streaming Media and Audio: Physical Media Collection

Physical Media Collection

The Libraries Media Collection is located on open shelving on Level 1 of Coe Library. It is searchable in UW Libraries QuickSearch.

  • Videos: DVD/Blu-Ray collection of over 23,000 titles suitable for kindergarten through adult audiences. The collection features educational titles, as well as award-winning theatrical films and television series.
  • Music: CD collection contains approximately 3,500 titles. The collection focuses on classical and jazz music.
  • CD-ROMs: Discs containing electronic files, primarily published by the Federal Government.

 

Media Viewing Equipment

  • Two media carrels on Level 1 of Coe Library near the DVDs are available for use by all borrowers. These play both DVD and BluRay discs as well as VHS tapes.
  • Two study-rooms are on Level 1 of Coe Library are available for use by UW students and employees. These play both DVD and BluRay discs as well as VHS tapes.

Media Accessibility

You can search the QuickSearch on the UW Libraries homepage for films that contain specific notes related to:

  • Films for the Hearing Impaired
  • Films for People with Visual Disabilities
  • Films with Subtitles

For example, enter films for the hearing impaired AND comedy in the QuickSearch box.

Click on the search icon.

On the left side of the search results page, select "Content Type - Videos" and "Physical Location = Coe Library." Here are the search results.

Many titles in the Libraries Streaming Video Databases include closed captioning, and some include transcripts.

Request Media

The Libraries purchases DVDs to support the education research mission of the University. Use the Suggest a Purchase form to request a video to show in class, place on course reserve, or to meet research needs.
