WyoScholar, the Institutional Repository: Other file types

Other Types

WyoScholar can support a variety of file and publication types outside of word documents and datasets. Some of the most common types are discussed below. If you have content that doesn't fit into any of the types discussed in this guide, please contact us at scholcom@uwyo.edu. We are happy to discuss more specific publication type options that may apply to your research.

The below sections include recommended fields. These are to be used in addition to required fields (see below). All fields may not be applicable to all publications. Use what you feel is appropriate for your publication. If we need further clarification, we will reach out while your publication is in review.

Required fields:

  • Title (title of your article or publication)
  • Authors (yourself and other people who authored the text)
  • Categories (fields of study, choose as many as fit your project/department—this list is searchable)
  • Group (you can search the list for an appropriate sub-group)
  • Item Type (Research Article, Thesis)
  • Keyword(s) (5-10 keywords related to your article or publication)
  • Description (For papers, this will be your abstract. For other projects, include a brief description/summary of your material)
  • License (Select the license you want to apply to your submission. Learn more about licenses in the Copyright LibGuide. All rights reserved is a license option.)
  • Subject (Select the department(s) most closely related to your affiliation with the university. For authors with interdepartmental affiliation and/or for submissions with multiple authors, select all appropriate departments.)

Video & Audio

Media specifically refers to video or audio recordings. If you have a recording of a presentation or an .mp3 of podcast-style content, this is considered media.

All video and audio recording submissions should be assigned the Media publication type. The preferred format is .mp4/.mp3.

Video recordings include conference presentations, lectures.

Audio recordings include podcasts, music, voiced narratives.

In addition to the required fields included in the general submission instructions, the below are recommended for video/audio publications, if applicable:

  • References (link to appropriate parties, such as a conference event page, if publishing a recording of a conference presentation)
  • Country (Country where the recording was made)
  • Language (language that the recording is in)
  • Contributor (non-authors who contributed to the work)
  • Contributing Institution (institution where recording was made, such as the name of the university hosting a conference)
  • Duration (length of recording, format as HH:MM:SS, with 00 replacing HH if recording is less than an hour)
  • Parent Title (title of conference/event where recording took place)

Slides & Supplemental Presentation Materials

For presentation slides and/or transcripts without a media recording, use the Presentation type. If you are submitting a recording of a presentation, use the Media type.

In addition to the required fields included in the general submission instructions, the below are recommended for slide publications, if applicable:

  • References (link to appropriate parties, such as a conference event page, if publishing slides from a conference presentation)
  • Country (Country where the event was located)
  • Language (language that the slides are in)
  • Contributor (non-authors who contributed to the work)
  • Contributing Institution (institution where slides were presented, such as the name of the university hosting a conference)
  • Parent Title (title of conference/event where recording took place)

Academic Posters

Academic poster presentations should be published under the Poster item type. If your content is any other kind of poster (such as an artistic poster) it should be published as a Figure, not as a poster.

In addition to the required fields included in the general submission instructions, the below are recommended for poster publications, if applicable:

  • References (link to appropriate parties, such as a conference event page, if publishing a recording of a conference presentation)
  • Country (Country where the poster was presented)
  • Language (language that the poster is in)
  • Contributor (non-authors who contributed to the work)
  • Contributing Institution (institution where poster was presented, such as the name of the university hosting a conference)
  • Parent Title (title of conference/event where recording took place)

Images

Standalone images and figures should be submitted under the Figure item type.

Documents that include images (such as a journal article with images) should be submitted under the appropriate document type.

In addition to the required fields included in the general submission instructions, the below are recommended for image publications, if applicable:

  • References (link to appropriate parties, such as a conference event page, if publishing a recording of a conference presentation)
  • Comments (information about the photography equipment, pixel count, etc.)
  • Country (Country where the images were taken)
  • Contributor (non-authors who contributed to the work)
  • Contributing Institution (institution where images were taken, such as the name of an archive with collections being photographed)

Open Educational Resources

OER (Open Educational Resources) should be published under the publication type that best fits the content. Textbooks should be published as Book, recordings should be published as Media, etc.

Some OER may not comfortably fit into other publication types (such as lab materials, course manuals, quiz banks, etc). For these materials, use the Educational Resource type. Items should only be published as Educational Resource if there is no other type that is more appropriate for the content.

In addition to the required fields included in the general submission instructions, the below are recommended for all OER publications, if applicable:

  • Funding (grants or other sources of funding that contributed to the creation of the OER)
  • Resource title (title of related works that have DOIs, such as an OER textbook if publication is supplemental to that original work)
  • Resource DOI (DOI related to above title **NOTE: Resource title/DOI is limited to one entry, and the entry must include both the title and DOI. If this is not applicable, use the References field (below) instead)
  • References (link to related works without DOIs, such as an OER textbook if publication is supplemental to that original work)
  • Comments (additional information about the OER that you do not want to include in the Description/Abstract field)
  • Country (Country where the OER is based)
  • Language (language that the OER is in)
  • Contributor (non-authors who contributed to the work)
  • Contributing Institution (institution where recording was made, such as the name of the university hosting a conference)
